It’s time to break out the brushes and unleash your imagination! The American Heroes festival is seeking submissions for the first "Art That Celebrates America" exhibit and art contest. This is a public visual art project in which local artists contribute to a gallery of work, hosted at The Colony City Hall Annex, 6804 Main Street, 75056.

Who Can Participate?

Participation in "Art That Celebrates America" is open to anyone. Artists ages 17 and below require the signature of a guardian or parent. Artists and photographers may offer their works for sale if they so choose. Artists do not need to be a resident of The Colony to enter their art into this exhibit.

What Kind of Art Is Accepted?

Art of any medium that is appropriate for public viewing is accepted. Art will be judged in three separate categories: Painting, Photography and Other Media (anything besides painting or photography). Each category will be divided into two separate age divisions: 17 & Under and 18 & Up. Additional rules for submissions are:

  • submissions may be no larger than 24 x 36 inches;
  • submissions must be properly matted or framed;
  • print your name, name of the piece, and type of work on the back; and,
  • business card-size labels may be made to go with each submitted piece, displaying your name, name of the piece, contact phone and/or email, and price (if applicable).

What is the Theme?

The theme for this exhibit and show is "Art That Celebrates America". Submissions are required to relate to the theme in some aspect. The theme is open to interpretation by each artist, but the event reserves the right to accept or not accept a submission based on it's adherence to the theme.

When are Submissions Due?

Submissions for the exhibit will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at The Colony City Hall Annex, 6804 Main Street, 75056. Artists must drop off their submissions in person, along with a Release & Waiver of Liability Form for each submission.

Public Viewing

All artists who submit their work for this exhibit are invited to be on hand for the public viewing of this show. The public viewing will be held from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at  at The Colony City Hall Annex, 6804 Main Street, 75056.

When Will the Winners Be Announced?

There will be an Awards Reception for artists and VIP guests from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at The Colony City Hall Annex, 6804 Main Street in The Colony. Awards will be presented for Painting, Photography and Other Media (anything besides painting or photography) in both age divisions (17 & Under and 18 & Up). Awards given will be:

  • First Place
  • Second Place
  • Third Place
  • Honorable Mention

Additionally, one People's Choice Award will be presented, and one Best of Show Award will be given to the overall best submission for the entire show.
