Appeal

The City of the Colony Municipal Court is a Court of Record.  The appeal of a Municipal Court of Record case must be based on an error made during the trial and preserved in the court record.  The information provided here is only a brief summary of your right to appeal and the applicable laws.  For more detailed information, please see Chapter 30 of the Texas Government Code and the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure.  You must contact an attorney if you have any questions.  The municipal court staff cannot provide legal advice.    

MOTION FOR NEW TRIAL.  A written motion for new trial must be filed no later than the 10th calendar day after being found guilty at trial.

NOTICE OF APPEAL/APPEAL BOND.  If the motion for new trial is denied, you must submit a notice of appeal and file an appeal bond within 10 calendar days. The amount of the appeal bond must be double the amount of the fine and costs assessed.
