[ARCHIVED] Republic opens new facility; trash/recycling collection to reverse

Republic Waste Services

Republic Waste Services, the city’s contractor for trash and recycling collection, opened a new, advanced hauling facility last month adjacent to the Lewisville landfill.

Among other benefits, the proximity of the 25,000 square-foot facility enables faster turnaround times for trucks collecting in The Colony. In light of that time-saving, Republic will be reversing the order in which it collects trash and recycling starting Jan. 2, 2018. Currently, trucks collect trash in the morning and recycling in the afternoon. Starting next year, recycling will be collected first followed by trash. The schedule for collection days remains the same.

Regardless of the order, residents are still encouraged to put their bins out for collection either the night before their scheduled collection day or by 7 a.m. on collection day to ensure all of their trash and recycling is collected.

For more information, call the Environmental Services Department at 972-624-3131. More information is also available about Republic's new facility.
