[ARCHIVED] Winter Weather Notice

Web-Icicle

North Texas is under a Winter Weather Warning as of Wednesday, Feb. 23, continuing through Thursday, Feb. 24. Due to hazardous conditions, City offices, facilities, & the library are closed Thursday, Feb. 24. The City will reopen on Friday, Feb. 25.

  • Also, trash/recycling services were postponed on Feb. 24. Service will resume on Friday, Feb. 25, but with a delayed start. Collection will begin with Thursday's routes. Any of those collections not completed on Friday due to the delay will be collected on Saturday, Feb. 26, along with Friday's routes. Residents are asked to leave out their carts until collected through Saturday evening.

Residents are advised to monitor weather media closely and take precautions, especially on roadways. Forecasts say a combination of potentially subfreezing temperatures and precipitation could result in between 1/10 and 2/10 inches of freezing rain, sleet, and/or ice on surfaces over the course of this event (Feb. 23-24).

  • Motorists are encouraged to be extremely cautious on roadways, especially on overpasses and bridges. Stay off the roads if you can.
  • Turn off your sprinklers!

Keep up with the latest weather info from your local weather media or the National Weather Service-Fort Worth.

Preparedness

We also encourage residents to visit the Preparedness/Emergency Management section of our website for information on emergency kits and communication plans. Most importantly, take steps in advance to protect the "Four Ps" at your home or business:

  • Pipes
  • Pets
  • Plants
  • People

Please visit www.Ready.gov for additional weather preparedness information.

Power Outages

Prior to the winter storm earlier this month, state officials indicated that the power grid is expected to remain stable during upcoming weather events. However, that does not mean that frozen water or downed trees won't impact service to specific neighborhoods around North Texas. Should your power go out, report the outage to your utility provider, which would be either Oncor or CoServ:

To help conserve energy during extreme temperature conditions, our partners at CoServ suggest:

  • Setting your thermostat to 68 or lower, and,
  • Turning down your water heater temperature setting to warm (120 degrees F).
