[ARCHIVED] Roadwork Roundup: Closures on West Lake Highlands, East Lake Highlands drives

Road Work Ahead

Some current and upcoming roadwork projects include the addition of a right-turn lane on West Lake Highlands Drive, and the resurfacing of East Lake Highlands Drive. All work is weather-permitting.

West Lake Highlands Resurfacing Project

Starting at 8 a.m. Friday,  March 24, contractors for the city will begin work on the pavement reconstruction on East Lake Highlands Drive, which will reconstruct the roadway with new pavement. East Lake Highlands will be closed down to one-way traffic going eastbound only from FM 423 to the Elm Street intersection. Westbound traffic on East Lake Highlands Drive will be closed to thru traffic from the intersection of Elm Street/East Lake Highlands Drive to FM 423. Westbound traffic from the Public Works facility, Wastewater Treatment Plant, City Animal Services Building and Pawsome Playground Dog Park, will be detoured south onto Elm Street. Southbound traffic on Elm Street will be able to take a right on Witt Drive to drive to FM 423. Elm Street will be closed to northbound traffic that is wanting to turn north from Witt Drive.

This work is part of the city's current Paving Reconstruction for Elm Street, Witt Drive and East Lake Highlands Project. At a cost of $1.2M, the Paving Reconstruction for Elm Street, Witt Drive and East Lake Highlands contract was approved by The Colony City Council on Oct. 18, 2022

West Lake Highlands Turn Lane Project

Starting 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, contractors for the city will begin work on the West Lake Highlands Turn Lane Project, which will add a new right-turn lane at the eastbound intersection of West Lake Highlands Drive and Main Street.

During the project, eastbound traffic on Lake Highlands will be closed at Main Street. Traffic will be detoured onto Lake Park Drive. Westbound traffic on Lake Highlands will still enter the neighborhood from Main Street.

We thank you for your patience, and please drive safe in construction zones! This work is part of the city's current Phase 12 Residential Street Reconstruction Project, which includes reconstruction of Alta Oaks Court, Ballard Trail, and Runyon Drive. At a cost of $3.5M, the Phase 12 contract was approved by The Colony City Council in December 2022.
