Some current and upcoming roadwork projects include the addition of a right-turn lane on West Lake Highlands Drive. All work is weather-permitting. The East Lake Highlands repaving project was recently completed.
Community Center/Recreation Center/Police Department entrance
Starting Tuesday, April 25, the city's Public Works Department is beginning a driveway improvement project on the entrance to the Community Center, Recreation Center and Police Department parking lot, 5151 North Colony Blvd. The construction will be completed in two phases. Phase I will consist of a full driveway replacement on the east lane of the entrance. During this phase of construction, the west lane of the driveway will be one way traffic for entrance use only. All exiting traffic must exit to the west of the Community Center through the Griffin Middle School drive.
Please note: Parents picking up their kids in the Community Center parking lot are advised to use the established Griffin Middle School pickup lines to avoid any delays.
This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. Call 972-624-3129 for more information.
West Lake Highlands Turn Lane Project
Construction is underway for work on the West Lake Highlands Turn Lane Project, which will add a new right-turn lane at the eastbound intersection of West Lake Highlands Drive and Main Street.
During the project, eastbound traffic on Lake Highlands is closed at Main Street. Traffic will be detoured onto Lake Park Drive. Westbound traffic on Lake Highlands will still enter the neighborhood from Main Street.
Also, the right lane of southbound Main Street is closed from north of Lake Park to West Lake Highlands.
We thank you for your patience, and please drive safe in construction zones! This work is part of the city's current Phase 12 Residential Street Reconstruction Project, which includes reconstruction of Alta Oaks Court, Ballard Trail, and Runyon Drive. At a cost of $3.5M, the Phase 12 contract was approved by The Colony City Council in December 2022.
Main Street road repairs
Starting April 10, the Texas Department of Transportation, which owns and operates FM 423 (Main Street in The Colony), will be making repairs along Main Street between State Highway 121 and Lebanon Road. The project will include full-depth road repair in various locations of both the north- and southbound lanes. There will be various lane closures throughout the life of the project, weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. This project is expected to be completed by fall of 2023. Please #DriveSafe in work zones!
