The North Texas Tollway Authority has kicked off 2019 with the early stages of a project to widen the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT). Motorists likely have noticed the recent lane closures, including the underpasses at both Main Street & Standridge.
Current closures include the following, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, May 28-31:
- two westbound left lanes of the Sam Rayburn Tollway between Legacy Drive and Business 121 (near Old Denton Road).
Current closures include the following, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, May 29-31:
- two eastbound right lanes of the SRT between Paige Road/Plano Parkway & Main Street/Josey Lane; and,
- eastbound exit and entrance ramps both to and from Main Street/Josey Lane.
As of March, no additional closures of the underpasses are scheduled until later this spring, at which time notice will be given. However, motorists are still advised to expect periodic closures of the U-turn lanes at both Main Street and Standridge.
Dubbed the Fourth Lane Project, improvements to the SRT primarily include constructing an additional lane in each direction (in the center median) along the entire 26 miles of the SRT, from west of Denton Tap Road in Coppell to U.S. Highway 75 in McKinney. Auxiliary lanes will be added in various locations along the corridor to improve ramp merging areas.
Officials say the work will have minimal impact on highway traffic flow but overnight work on most bridges, such as the one at Main Street, will result in closures of the underpass.
