The North Texas Tollway Authority has kicked off 2019 with the early stages of a project to widen the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT). Motorists likely have noticed the recent lane closures, including the underpasses at both Main Street & Standridge.
Current closures include the following, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, April 15-19:
- Two eastbound right lanes of State Highway 121 (the SRT frontage road) between Legacy Drive and the DNT. One lane will remain open; and,
- Two eastbound right lanes of State Highway 121 between Plano Parkway/Paige Road to South Colony/Nebraska Furniture Mart Drive. One lane will remain open.
Current closures include the following, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, April 14-24:
- Two left eastbound lanes of State Highway 121 (the SRT frontage road) near the Main Street/Josey intersection;
- U-turn lanes at Main Street/Josey; and,
- Eastbound Main Street/Josey entrance and exit ramps.
Current closures also include two east- and westbound lanes of the SRT between Legacy Drive and Standridge Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, April 1-27.
As of March 27, no additional closures of the underpasses are scheduled until later this spring, at which time notice will be given. However, motorists are still advised to expect periodic closures of the U-turn lanes at both Main Street and Standridge.
Dubbed the Fourth Lane Project, improvements to the SRT primarily include constructing an additional lane in each direction (in the center median) along the entire 26 miles of the SRT, from west of Denton Tap Road in Coppell to U.S. Highway 75 in McKinney. Auxiliary lanes will be added in various locations along the corridor to improve ramp merging areas.
Officials say the work will have minimal impact on highway traffic flow but overnight work on most bridges, such as the one at Main Street, will result in closures of the underpass.
