[ARCHIVED] Republic Services to change out old trash carts

Republic Services truck

Starting the week of Nov. 9, the city’s solid-waste contractor, Republic Waste Services, will begin a process of changing out damaged or old trash carts for residential customers in the city.

The cart-replacement process will begin with Tuesday’s routes. Replacement will continue on a weekly basis for a given day’s route until completed, at which time Republic will begin the next day’s route, and so on, until completed citywide.

Two trucks will be on the streets during the replacement, with the first truck collecting items from the carts, and the second truck following behind to change out damaged or old Allied Waste carts.

In an effort to educate residents on recycling best practices and to reduce contamination in recycling contents, a recycling sticker will be placed on the recycle cart lids during the same timeframe.

This replacement only covers trash carts, not recycling. Recycle carts will be assessed and placed on an exchange list for replacement in the first quarter of 2021. For more information, call the Environmental Services Department at 972-624-3131.
