Celebrate Parks & Recreation Month

Summer is here and it's time to #PlayTC! During its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 6, The Colony City Council proclaimed July 2021 as Parks & Recreation Month in The Colony. In doing so, the Council recognizes the important role parks and recreation play in building healthy, active communities.

With that mind, we encourage you to check out some of The Colony Parks & Recreation Department's upcoming programs and events, as well as all the facilities, parks, trails, and open spaces available year-round:

  • BACK TO SCHOOL BASH - This year's Back to School Bash is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Recreation Center, 5151 North Colony Blvd. Join us for this fun-filled evening complete with free school supplies and lots of helpful information for the upcoming school year. Registration for The Colony residents is underway now. Space is limited to the first 500 children ages 5-12. For more info or to register, call 972-625-1106.
  • SUMMER CLUBHOUSE SERIES - The Colony Summer Clubhouse is back every Friday morning now through Aug. 6 in the Recreation Center gym. Remaining shows in this year's series includes a magic show, animal presentations, sing-along storytelling and a BMX trick show. Seating begins at 9 a.m.; show at 10 a.m. Bring your friends and family, all ages are welcome!
  • PARKS & TRAILS - #DYK? The City by the Lake boasts the second-most park space per capita in the Lone Star State. Visit the Parks & Trails page of our website to find the nearest open space near you!
  • THE COLONY AQUATIC PARK - The summer swim season is in full swing! The Colony Aquatic Park features a heated Indoor Pool, Outdoor Leisure Lagoon, shade covered Wading Pool and an interactive Splash Zone for preschoolers. Summer swim hours are in effect through Aug. 8. For more info, call 972-624-2225.
  • THE COLONY WHEEL ZONE BIKE & SKATE PARK - The Colony Wheel Zone Bike & Skate Park is a free facility, open to the public behind the Recreation Center. The facility underwent major upgrades in recent years. Check out the action on YouTube.
  • YOUTH SPORTS - Registration for Fall Youth Sports (volleyball and NFL flag football) is underway now through Aug. 15. Visit www.PlayTCSports.com to register online.
North Texas Job Fair

City participates in regional job fair

The Colony Mayor Joe McCourry is among more than 40 elected officials from North Texas partnering with Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne for a regional job fair from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in Irving. The event will feature more than 130 businesses, including Amazon, American Airlines, and Toyota. Visit www.myntxjob.com for all the details.

Furry friends in need of homes

The Colony Animal Shelter has reached full capacity in recent weeks. Adoption fees for animals 1-year-old and up are reduced to $20. #ICYMI: Construction on The Colony's new splash park is underway! The location is adjacent to Kids Colony Park behind the Recreation Center at 5151 North Colony Blvd. During the construction period the pavilion at Kids Colony is closed in order to be expanded as part of the construction project. The playgrounds and basketball court are still open and available for use. Please use caution when visiting the area. Helping hands in the news

NBC5 recently profiled one of several home-repair projects in The Colony brought about by a partnership between local volunteers and the city's Volunteer Assistance Program (VAP) in June. What else is In THE News?

  • The Colony City Council will hold its General Election for at-large city council districts on Nov. 2, 2021. This year, the Mayor and Places 1 and 2 are up for election for three-year terms. The at-large city council members represent the city as a whole and voters are eligible to vote in all three races. The candidate filing period begins July 17 and runs through Aug. 16. Contact The Colony City Secretary's Office or visit our website for more information.
  • The Colony Economic Development Corporation was recently named a finalist for the 2021 Workforce Excellence Award from the Texas Economic Development Council for its workforce initiatives implemented during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Colony EDC placed second in the population category of 40,000 to 100,000 of the 850 economic development member organization. Visit our website for the full story.
  • During its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 6, The Colony City Council received a brief update from a representative of the North Texas Soup-N-Bowl who reported that the 2021 event raised more than $30,000 to help feed The Colony families in need. Great job, TC!
